Heritage Auctions had set a new benchmark with the sale of two of Mike Bossy’s New York Islanders championship rings, where the 1981 ring sold for an astounding $228,000 and the 1980 ring for $220,000. Prior to this, the highest-selling Stanley Cup ring was a 1990 Oilers ring from former team owner Peter Pocklington, which commanded $72,151 in a Classic Auctions event back in 2009.
