Costly Theft at National Sports Collectors Convention

The final day of the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland took a dark turn as a sports card dealer from New Jersey fell victim to a costly theft. Approximately $275,000 in cash was reported stolen from his vehicle on Sunday, July 28, at the I-X Center.

The unlucky incident transpired as the 48-year-old dealer was in the process of loading his SUV after the convention. The stolen cash, paired with two iPads, had been securely housed in a black briefcase within the vehicle. Even though the dealer was under the impression that his SUV was locked, the briefcase vanished during his absence.

Cleveland Police First District detectives revealed that the black briefcase, equipped with an air tag, was later discovered on the property of the I-X Center. Unfortunately, the significant sum of cash that had been contained within the briefcase was nowhere to be found.

Authorities are on the lookout for two suspects who were spotted leaving the vicinity in a blue Honda Odyssey van. Their cooperation in providing any leads or information related to the theft is highly encouraged.

For those who may possess valuable information regarding the theft, do not hesitate to reach out to the First District Detective Unit at (216) 623-5118 or contact the Crime Stoppers tip line at (216) 252-7463. Your assistance could prove pivotal in resolving this disheartening incident.
